This role is focused on: As a team lead, you will coach, mentor, and grow a team of frontend engineers while developing your coaching capability to scale the team and meet the needs of the growing editing vision.
You'll be working alongside the technical lead to facilitate solving some of the most ambitious technical problems and guiding the team to deliver results.
You will work closely with the Product Manager to understand and contribute to the product roadmap.
You will drive the planning and refinement of seasonal goals, ensuring there is alignment between the company, group, and teams.
You will foster a culture of collaboration and advocate for the engineering needs of non-technical collaborators within the group.
You will own and drive the delivery of large, cross-team, and cross-group initiatives and projects from ideation to completion, with autonomy and independence of decision-making.
You're probably a match if Previous experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of engineers.
Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building frameworks, libraries, or APIs.
Our frontend stack consists of Java Script, HTML, CSS, React, Type Script, Mob X, etc.
Experience in some of these would be valuable but is not required.
Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
Previous experience in working collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
Good writing and verbal communication skills.
About the team The Editing Core team's mission is to scale the core editing building blocks and empower Canva teams to ship changes with confidence and speed.
Areas of responsibility include the rendering stack of the Editor, overall architecture of the code, document model, sync, and critical components like canvas, elements, resource loading, sim-collab, selection and more.
About the role We're looking for an experienced manager who is not afraid to jump into the complex space that is the core Editor architecture.
You'll be managing 6-8 engineers (including multiple senior engineers) to improve and evolve the foundational pieces that make up the Canva Editor.
You'll get a chance to shape these from the core up, working across technical design, code architecture, hiring, engagement with key stakeholders across the business, and professional growth and development of the people you lead.
