About the role The Media Advisor is a key role responsible for delivering effective proactive media activities and reactive media advice to support Work Safe's strategic objectives.
The Media Advisor also supports the broader Communications and External Affairs teams to deliver effective government relations, stakeholder relations and corporate communications activities.
Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement and evaluate media plans to support business initiatives, collaborating with teams across the organisation to achieve successful outcomes.
Undertake media activities such as the drafting of press releases and other content, ensuring key messages are consistent with Work Safe's business objectives while demonstrating an in-depth understanding of relevant issues and their impact.
Generate relevant coverage in print, broadcast and online media while building and maintaining strong relationships with journalists.
Provide proactive and reactive strategic and tactical advice on media issues to internal stakeholders, identifying and managing reputational risks and opportunities.
Respond to media inquiries, issues and data requests by liaising with all levels of the organisation to ensure information is accurate and appropriate.
Assist in the planning and delivery of media events and opportunities that support the strategic objectives of Work Safe and the office of the Minister for Work Safe.
About you The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the Victorian media landscape and media operations gained through experience working with, or in, news media.
They will have a demonstrated ability to plan and generate media coverage, either as a journalist or communications professional.
In addition, they will have very strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to quickly transform complex ideas into clear public messages.
Qualifications A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or public relations will be highly regarded.
