National Director Job Description The National Director is a dynamic and challenging position for individuals interested in making a lasting impact in the Bolivian Amazon.
The selected candidate will serve as a liaison between SB’s projects in the town of Riberalta and our work in the Aquicuana Reserve.He/she will help recruit and manage volunteers, assist in fundraising activities and oversee the implementation of our projects.
The national director will help supervise activities and projects at our newly-built biological research station, as well as our eco-lodge retreat center, 'Pisatahua.'He/she will help lead projects focused on community-based ecotourism, sustainable agriculture, conservation and resource management, as well as environmental education and research.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Conduct site visits to assess needs and progress
• Assist in the development of current and future projects
• Oversee the Volunteer Program in Riberalta and Aquicuana Reserve
• Oversee the Art Residency Program
• Oversee the Independent Research Program
General Administration and Office Duties:
• Respond to calls and emails from agencies, volunteers, and others
• Maintain, update and organize management materials
• Collect and maintain data about activities and projects completed
• Help manage maintenance and improvement of facilities
• Other administrative duties as assigned and related to the position
Volunteer and Staff Management:
• Manage an average of 6 volunteers
• Provide work-related orientation program for new volunteers
• Help coordinate cultural and educational leisure activities
• Maintain relationship with host families and coordinate volunteer stays
• Help hire new staff and interns
Communications & Partnerships:
• Oversee the production of communications materials
• Coordinate with a variety of grass-roots organizations via email, telephone and attendance of meetings/events
• Provide support, consultancy and advice to partner organizations
• Conduct site visits to partners to assess project needs
• Participate in fund-raising and promotional activities to raise awareness of Sustainable Bolivia projects
Qualifications:
• Work experience and/or interest in environmental issues, biology and community development
• Ideally the candidate would be fluent (or near) in Spanish and English
• Experience managing volunteers or staff an advantage
