Solicitors at all levels - Principal, Senior and Solicitors Job posted: 26/09/2024 Organisation: Office of Public Prosecutions Reference: VG/1822464 Closes: 06/10/2024 Classification: VPSG6 Salary Range: $134,593 - $180,115 The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.
Solicitors at all levels Fixed term opportunities up to 12 months The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has exciting opportunities for solicitors at all levels to join Victoria's largest criminal legal practice! Solicitors at the OPP are responsible for the preparation of matters at varying ranges of size and complexity, working for early resolution or trial, and instructing Counsel appearing for the Crown.
Seniors will prepare matters for prosecution at committal stage, with the opportunity to work on more highly complex matters with Principal Solicitors.
Principal Solicitors will identify and respond to new and emerging legal issues where there may be limited existing precedent.
At this level, you will be proactively involved in the supervision of junior legal staff as part of a mutual professional development opportunity and demonstrated leadership skillset.
As an OPP employee, you will work in a dynamic and diverse environment that embraces change, agility, and contributes toward and embraces innovative solutions and ways of working.
Our ideal candidates will have: An extensive working knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedures and other relevant legislation.
Experience with a range of cases from moderate to highly complex.
High-level interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate with relevant stakeholders both internally and externally to the OPP.
Demonstrated ability to proactively settle matters where appropriate in line with the DPP's policy.
Demonstrated ability to develop and trial innovative solutions in a collaborative setting.
Ability to mentor and influence junior legal staff.
