Job Description Location: Gippsland | Bass Coast Job type: Full time / From 28/01/2025 - 26/01/2028 Organisation: Schools (Government) Salary: Salary not specified Occupation: Teacher Reference: 1438032 Role The Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic vision and instructional practices of Bass Coast College.
This leader works closely with the principal team, teachers, and support staff to ensure high standards of teaching and learning across the college.
The role involves overseeing curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment processes, ensuring alignment with educational standards and student needs.
A primary focus is on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, supporting teachers with professional development, and driving innovation in teaching to enhance student engagement and outcomes.
In addition to providing instructional leadership, the Assistant Principal is responsible for analysing student performance data to inform decision-making and intervention strategies.
The role requires a commitment to equity and inclusivity, ensuring that all students, regardless of background or ability, have access to high-quality education.
Collaboration with stakeholders, including parents and external partners, is also key in promoting the school's academic goals and fostering community engagement.
This position demands a balance of visionary leadership and hands-on implementation to create an environment that supports both teachers and students in achieving academic excellence.
Responsibilities The key roles of the Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning, may include but are not limited to: Have a high level of knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum and VCE/VCEVM subjects offered at BCC.
Provide leadership to the teaching and learning culture at BCC by supporting a strong curriculum team with the Leaders of each KLA.
Support the Year Level coordinators to prepare for and deliver the Information Evenings.
Lead the Student Learning conferences with the Campus Principals.
Support the A&I team where applicable in the preparation for a DIP.
Lead the implementation of collection, analysis and use of data to inform practice in the classroom.
Lead the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum within the allocated learning areas, including the development, implementation and ongoing refinement of Curriculum Maps, Common Assessment Tasks (CATs), Instructional Rubrics and Learning Sequences.
Collaboratively plan and implement professional learning related to the Learning priority of the AIP.
Lead KLA staff to support smooth curriculum transitions from Years 9 into 10 and 10 into VCE/VM.
Support the facilitation of whole school assessment and testing sessions for students (e.g.
NAPLAN, PAT, GAT), including facilitation of student assemblies and information sessions as required.
Support coordinators and teachers of special learning programs, (SEAL, SELP, HAP).
Collaborate with the Learning Specialists to develop common, high-quality teaching practices within and across learning areas through regular professional learning, including a focus on the HITS as well as school-identified priority areas such as the Instructional Model and HIWS.
Ensure consistency within and across all learning areas on the implementation of assessment and reporting, including the consistent use of Compass Learning Tasks and school-determined reporting structures.
Contribute to the development and regular review of curriculum structures and offerings at the college, including subject handbooks and related information.
Foster a culture of continuous professional learning, offering workshops, coaching, and mentoring for teachers.
Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the school.
Lead and manage the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student learning.
Deputise for Campus Principal when required, and perform any other duties as required by the Principal.
Note: It is anticipated that the role will require a teaching component of up to 4 hours.
Who May Apply Appropriately qualified individuals currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
