The Position We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead Geelong Sustainability, this includes overseeing all projects, events, campaigns and services.
The successful applicant will lead and manage a team of highly motivated staff to ensure Geelong Sustainability initiatives are delivered successfully, provide outstanding community impact and are in alignment with the organisation's strategic goals.
Key Accountabilities Culture and Leadership Build and sustain a positive team culture aligned with the code of conduct, vision and values.
Lead and inspire staff, contractors, partners, and volunteers.
Apply Situational Leadership to address the full scope of work required to create impact.
Represent the organisation's interests and priorities in meetings, events, and the media.
Lead advocacy activities on strategic priorities and programs, including empowering our members and supporters to amplify their voices on key issues where our priorities and values are aligned.
Build and strengthen strategic partnerships to extend our overall reach and impact.
Strategy and Risk Management Inform the Board of all events which may have material impact on the organisation's activities or well-being.
Support delivery of the Risk Management Framework and risk management procedures.
Report on the status of organisational policies, strategies, risks, and plans.
Support the Board to maintain and review the Geelong Sustainability Strategy as required.
Commence implementation of the Environmental Sustainability Plan for net zero emissions, and the first stage of our Reconciliation Action Plan.
Operational Management Create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) aligned to organisational goals and objectives.
Establish goals for all employees aligned with the organisation's KPIs and objectives.
Develop, update and implement Standard Operating Policies and Procedures (SOPs).
Effectively manage performance of the organisation's operations, staff, and contractors.
Apply organisational resources effectively and efficiently to approved priorities.
Develop and deliver management reports on progress towards goals and objectives.
People and Safety Prioritise health, safety and well-being of all staff, contractors, partners, volunteers and the public.
Attract, retain, and motivate Geelong Sustainability staff and volunteers.
Ensure employment standards meet and exceed all legislative requirements.
Lead and empower staff to grow in their roles and responsibilities.
Identify and action professional development and capacity building opportunities for staff, that are aligned with supporting the organisation to achieve its goals.
Work with the Board to improve succession planning and organisational design.
Financial Management Alert the Board to risks of insolvency and any financial irregularities.
Present and manage the income strategy and the organisational budget for Board approval.
Manage expenditure and secure income to meet the Board's approved budget expectations.
Deliver improvements to financial reporting; specifically including cash flow reporting, and greater visibility of year-to-date income and expenditure against approved annual Budget.
Professional Development Work with the Board to identify and engage with approved executive coaching opportunities.
Other Accountabilities Meet with and report regularly to the Chairperson and Board.
Actively contribute ideas and work collaboratively.
Support Geelong Sustainability's vision and strategy in all projects.
Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Board.
Key Selection Criteria Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in sustainability, business administration, or other relevant disciplines.
Experience in managing and delivering multiple concurrent community-based projects.
Experience in project management, including planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation.
Experience in successfully managing high performing teams.
Experience engaging and building relationships with stakeholders in public, private, and community sectors.
Demonstrated experience in successful identification and mitigation of project and organisational risks.
Proficiency in budget management and financial reporting.
Culture and values alignment.
Essential Skills and Competencies Excellent communication skills (written, digital, and verbal) for engaging with a variety of audiences.
Ability to deal with pressure and work to demanding deadlines, including juggling multiple projects and competing priorities effectively.
High level of digital literacy including Google Workspace, MS Office, Social Media, Data Management, and Content Management systems.
Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of sustainability.
Willingness to work and attend meetings outside of normal office hours.
A current Victorian driver's licence and the use of a car.
Eligibility to work in Australia.

Employment Terms Appointment is subject to satisfactory Reference and Police Checks.
The position is subject to a satisfactory performance review after six months and subject to continued funding of the organisation.
The successful candidate will be required to regularly work from home and also attend a co-working space within the Geelong region.
