Key role in Aboriginal Treaty making in Victoria Strategic and operational leadership position Build culture and operational effectiveness About the organisation The Treaty Authority is an independent entity established to facilitate the creation of treaties between the State of Victoria and the First Peoples of Victoria.
The Treaty Authority operates within the framework of Aboriginal Lore, Law and Culture and is led by a panel of five Aboriginal Members.
The Treaty Authority work is adjacent to a wide range of stakeholders, including the First Peoples' Assembly, Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and the State of Victoria.
Its primary objectives are to promote reconciliation, mutual respect and tolerance, as well as to support the self-determination, empowerment, culture, and human rights of First Peoples.
About the role The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Treaty Authority is a pivotal leader in Victoria's Treaty Negotiation process with responsibility for steering the organisation's strategic direction and vision alongside the Members.
The CEO will support Members to facilitate Treaty negotiations, administer the Treaty Negotiation Framework, resolve disputes, conduct research and oversee the negotiations database.
The CEO provides strong, purpose-driven leadership, fostering an impactful and engaged organisational culture, while mentoring a high-performing senior team.
The CEO also manages day-to-day operations, supports community engagement and maintains strong relationships with key external stakeholders.
About you You are a proven, and hands-on CEO or senior executive with a considerable background in working with Aboriginal communities, particularly in Victoria.
This is underpinned by your insights into, and nuanced appreciation of, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Traditional Owner groups, legislative and regulatory regimes, Aboriginal histories and leaders, democratic processes, machinery of government and the Victorian Public Service.
A passionate and purpose-driven leader with strong financial and governance capabilities, you are a trusted adviser to boards on organisational growth, and a welcomed community advocate.
Known for your exceptional skills in stakeholder management and building effective relationships in complex environments across Ministers, Government, the First Peoples' Assembly, the broader Aboriginal community and other related organisations, you have successfully influenced positive public policy.
