Clinical Nurse Specialist - Behavioural, Mental Health & Wellbeing An exciting new full-time opportunity (Mon to Fri 0900-1700) to work alongside a highly dedicated team to deliver outstanding care to residents across Doutta Galla's eight aged care homes.
Reporting to the Executive Manager Clinical Governance, the Clinical Nurse Specialist Behavioural, Mental Health & Wellbeing will significantly impact the quality of care of our residents by assisting in the functioning of Memory Care Units and enhancing services and care for older people living with behaviours associated with complex and challenging mental health, dementia, or other neurological conditions.
This role includes: Leading behavioural and mental health and wellbeing quality improvement initiatives Leading development and review of behavioural care/support plans Supporting and providing education to all staff on preventative behaviour management Providing direction, supervision, and coaching to employees on behavioural care plans Providing leadership on behavioural assessments and screenings (MMSE) for the older person on admission Participating in case conferences and monthly care statements for residents with behavioural and/or mental health and well-being issues Liaising with leadership teams, direct care staff, families and other stakeholders including external behavioural care and mental health providers, GPs, medical specialists, and allied health providers Demonstrating and promoting clinical expertise and best practice standards Monitoring the quality of care, identifying areas for improvement, and supporting staff to deliver care of the highest standard To be successful in the role you will have: Five (5) years recent experience as a Registered Nurse in residential aged care and/or mental health Demonstrated experience in clinical leadership including using effective communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for dementia, delirium, depression, and other mental health issues and their effect on the older person, families, and caregivers Well-developed physical and behavioural assessment skills for evaluating dementias, cognitive impairments, depressions, and deliriums, mental health, and addictions Excellent critical thinking skills for the early detection, intervention, and prevention of responsive behaviours Well-developed understanding of non-pharmacological and therapeutic behavioural approaches In-depth understanding of pharmacological agents and their interactions, which are used to manage conditions that have behavioural components along the disease continuum Thorough understanding of restrictive practices according to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) Guidelines and National Quality Indicator Program (NQIP) Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving approach relative to behavioural exacerbations Strong clinical governance knowledge and current knowledge on best practice Excellent written and verbal communication skills Further studies e.g.
Eden Alternative Philosophy training, Montessori Education or Credentialed through Australian College of Mental Health Nurses will be highly regarded The Organisation: Doutta Galla Aged Services is a not-for-profit aged care organisation with over thirty years' experience caring for people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
