About the Role
The Royal Children's Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a passion for improving the patient and family experience to develop Australia's first paediatric Vascular Access Specialist Team (VAST).
There will be multiple positions available to create the VAST, who will cover the service for approximately 14 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) VAST, will be part of a dynamic team of nurses who will pioneer a new nurse-led approach for the insertion and care of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs). The VAST is dedicated to developing expertise, improving outcomes, enhancing staff education, and championing a patient-centred approach to all aspects of PIVC care. In this role you will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the service.
Classification for this position will be CAPR 1, YS9 (FTE base salary $99,252 per annum, plus superannuation).
What you'll achieve:
Establish and lead the service to meet patient, family and organisational needs
Provide expert clinical knowledge and skills, in the assessment and management of patients requiring peripheral vascular access
Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify system issues, propose solutions, and facilitate positive changes in service delivery
Develop and deliver educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge and skills of all healthcare professionals involved in the insertion and care of PIVCs
Monitor and evaluate clinical practice and service delivery using analytical skills in accessing and evaluating health information and research evidence
Your skills and experience:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility for patient care

About the Department
The VAST is positioned within the Division of Nursing Services and consists of a dynamic team of nurses who provide expertise for PIVC insertion and management across the RCH. The VAST is responsible for providing theoretical and simulation-based education for clinicians learning to insert PIVCs, as well as providing mentorship, supervision, and support at the bedside. The VAST works collaboratively with all clinical teams and is the central point of contact for PIVC service development and delivery.
