The Opportunity As a Community Laws Officer, you'll ensure the peace, order, safety and amenity of the Shire by providing both the community and internal Council employees with guidance and information to ensure they are compliant with relevant acts, regulations and local laws.
You'll investigate complaints and develop solutions using mediation, negotiation and enforcement action when required.
As a Community Laws Officer, you will: Assist in the resolution of enquiries, complaints and problems identified by the public.
Investigate, enforce and administer Council's General Local Laws and other relevant legislation using your strong mediation and negotiating skills.
Patrol designated parking areas and issue infringement notices, while reviewing signage to ensure it complies with legislative requirements.
Respond to complaints, conduct inspections and educate the community regarding animal control practices.
Maintain accurate records, notes, statements and diary entries of all investigations and actions taken and attend magistrates court as a witness when required.
This is a full-time, ongoing position and is based primarily in Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance with travel across East Gippsland as required.
You'll also join an on-call roster responding after normal business hours and on weekends to calls of an urgent nature.
Minimum Requirements: A relevant qualification and experience in Law Enforcement or a preparedness to undertake training pertinent to the role.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to utilise information technology applicable to the role.
Excellent customer service skills, conflict/dispute resolution and negotiating skills.
If successful, you will need to undertake a police check, pre-employment medical check and hold a current Working with Children Check.
You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
