Full-Time salary $115,000 - $125,000 plus superannuation About the Role Reporting to the Custodial and Deputy Custodial Service Managers, the Correctional Manager develops, monitors, and implements procedures for the day-to-day security and operation of varying areas within the Centre and the Centre as a whole, along with providing direction and leadership to Custodial Services staff.
The Correctional Manager may be required to manage varying environments and areas within the Centre and should have demonstrated sound technical knowledge of Corrections Victoria and GEO Instructions, policies, and procedures as well as the state's legislation relating to corrective services and other knowledge relevant to the sound operational management of a prison.
Some key accountabilities for this role are: To carry out all functions as a leading member of a multi-disciplinary team in a correctional environment, providing leadership and direction to staff and prisoners.
People management including developing and promoting positive relationships, coaching, and mentoring of staff, conflict resolution, influencing change and leading a positive workplace culture, and providing developmental feedback to staff – including performance management where necessary.
Actively coordinate the case management responsibilities of the Unit, ensuring that all case notes, reviews, monthly reviews, classification reviews and associated documentation is completed in a comprehensive and timely manner.
Manage an effective communication network that provides accurate and timely reporting of information between staff, senior leadership, and Head Office.
Contribute to the formulation, development, and implementation of the short, medium, and long-term goals of the Operations Department.
Assist in the development and implementation of policy and procedures and regulations for custody and/or treatment of prisoners.
Provide on-the-job training and development to staff to ensure that they have the skills and experience required to confidently and efficiently undertake their roles.
Importantly, we are looking for individuals who are proactive, able to work as part of a broader organisational team and have strong communication and organisational skills to effectively negotiate, interact with, and manage people from varying social and ethnic backgrounds to influence change and engage employees through aligned valued-based leadership and decision making.
About Your Skills and Experience To be successful in the role of Correctional Manager, you will have an excellent understanding of Case Management, have demonstrated ability to prepare analytical reports of a high standard and will have well-developed people management skills which enable you to empower, coach and mentor staff, resolve conflict, influence change, and provide feedback - both positive and constructive.
Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate sound people and safety management practices, have prior management experience (preferably within a Correctional setting) and be aware of required compliance standards, including the ability to report and rectify problems and prevent non-conformities.
You will also possess knowledge of, or be able to demonstrate the following key selection criteria : Demonstrated sound knowledge of people and safety management practices.
Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in a Correctional Management/Supervisory or similar middle management level position.
Ability to effectively negotiate, interact with and manage people from varying social and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to prepare reports of a high standard and submissions to management.
Demonstrated experience in decisively leading and managing a multi-disciplinary operational team within an institutional environment.
Proven ability to provide effective supervision, guidance, and support to staff.
Sound working knowledge of the Corrections Victoria Integrated Offender Management Framework.
Experience working directly with prisoners and demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of case management within the correctional environment.
Demonstrated analytical ability.
Ability to plan and problem solve in a demanding operational environment.
Willingness to work a rotating roster.
Certificate IV in Correctional Practice or nearing towards completion (favourable).
Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (desirable).
You must be willing and able to be placed into any Correctional Manager location including the Shift Manager position (24/7 rotating roster) and be able and willing to work weekends and/or night shifts.
