The Public Records Advisory Council (PRAC) is a Victorian Government specialist advisory body on matters relating to Victoria's public records law.
Council members, including the President, are appointed by the Hon.
Gabrielle Williams MP in her capacity as Minister for Government Services.
Membership of the Public Records Advisory Council is currently on an honorary (unpaid) basis.
Functions The Public Records Advisory Council's functions PRAC's functions are to: promote co-operation between the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) and other public offices, and report to the Minister, and make recommendations on any matter relating to the administration of Victoria's public records law.
The Public Record Office of Victoria's functions The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is the archive of the State and local government in Victoria.
PROV holds around 100kms of hard copy records and 600,000 digital records, dating from 1836 to present day.
PROV's objectives are to: issue standards regulating the creation, maintenance, and security of public records including the selection and disposal of public records not worthy of preservation advise and assist agencies in achieving compliance with issued standards preserve public records of permanent value as the state archives ensure that the archives are accessible to the government and the people of Victoria.
The head of PROV is the Keeper of Public Records, Ms Justine Heazlewood.
About the role Council members are expected to actively participate in Council discussions and strategic decision-making as necessary to support the Council to fulfil its functions.
Council members are public officials under section 4 of the Public Administration Act 1994.

Who we're looking for We value having a diverse set of representatives with appropriate skills and capabilities and are continually seeking to improve its diversity to better reflect the Victorian community it serves and represents.
An ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate they have the knowledge and experience to give authoritative advice to the Minister and the Keeper of Public Records in relation to the management of information and records in government with integrity.
Candidates should have demonstrable experience as a leader in exemplifying and promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity in all actions and decisions.
Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their ability to maintain and build trust with key stakeholders through consistently demonstrating honesty, open and transparent communication practices.
The successful candidates will have an opportunity to be involved in supporting the Public Records Office Victoria, the Victorian Public Service, and the Minister to meet evolving needs through adaptation to an increasingly digital environment.
