Cross-cutting Epidemiologist This is a remote/home-based, full-time, permanent position.
What You Will Do: As an Epidemiologist 2, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and functionality of our systems within the Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT).
Your expertise will support informatics efforts aimed at modernizing Washington State's notifiable disease surveillance system.
This includes creating data pipelines and interoperable systems, and managing projects involving both incoming and outgoing system data.
Your work will be integral to enhancing our public health infrastructure and ensuring that we can efficiently track and respond to notifiable diseases.
In addition, you will support public health emergency preparedness and response activities, contributing to the Agency's resilience in times of crisis.
Your efforts will directly support the Department of Health's Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant with the CDC.

Expectations and Impact : Provides consultation to stakeholders on the suite of applications supporting WA's electronic disease surveillance system (EDSS), including the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS).
Works with subject matter experts from the Office of Communicable Disease Epidemiology, Tech Ops, local and tribal public health, public health laboratory staff, and DOH cross-office support systems.
Complies and proposes solutions for EDSS needs on cross-cutting informatics projects.
Coordinates with Tech Ops for system and application change request development and promotion.
Liaises between disease experts and technical staff, represents business needs, drafts technical specifications and user requirements, and performs user acceptance testing (UAT) and regression testing for high priority Tech Ops projects that interact with WA's EDSS, including the implementation of a Master Person Index (MPI), electronic case reporting (e CR) integration, cloud analytic environment development, and future system modernization initiatives.
Supports the Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) Lead in enhancing and testing updates to the integration, verification, and standardization engine for incoming ELRs.
Maintains the ELR and e CR data pipelines, including creating key output pair (KOP) mappings to standardize incoming electronic data.
Assists with surveillance system enhancements to ingest ELRs and e CRs, including developing requirements and UAT.
Serves as the dedicated system enhancement lead for cross-cutting team EDSS needs.
Works with stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure data system design meets business needs.
Participates in cloud data analytic solutions for WA's EDSS data.
Participates in the design and management of EDSS system-level needs, including ongoing and short-term surveillance.

Minimum Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed.) : A degree in health informatics, public health, science, epidemiology, public policy or health policy, health services research, health information sciences, computer science, or a closely related field AND/OR experience in a healthcare or public health setting with health informatics responsibilities as follows: Lived Experience Option 1 : Five (5) or more years of experience Education AND Experience Option 2 : Bachelor's degree + Three (3) or more years of experience Education AND Experience Option 3 : Master's degree + Two (2) or more years of experience Preferred Qualifications: Experience using WDRS or a Maven-based system Experience with system interoperability and data exchange Experience with Smart Sheet and Share Point.
