The key duties of the position include Our Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver the ALRC's communications and engagement as we grow and engage with broader and diverse audiences.
Together with the executive and legal teams, the Director will be responsible for designing and implementing the ALRC's communications strategy to position the ALRC as a centre of excellence and the leading Australian agency for law reform.
The Director will be part of the leadership team and play a critical role in effectively communicating the work of the ALRC to organisational and inquiry-specific stakeholders and the broader community, including through media releases and media engagement, the ALRC website, social media channels, ALRC events, and the development of inquiry-specific communications products.
A key component of the role will be working closely with the legal teams to translate complex legal ideas into easily understood and engaging content that can be used in a range of forums.

Specific requirements of the role: Strategy: Work with the executive and legal teams to develop a communications strategy and implementation plan that promotes the ALRC as an authoritative centre of excellence and nation leader in law reform; Media: Manage media engagement including by providing high level media advice, developing and maintaining relationships with the media, writing media releases and responding to media enquiries; Online and digital communications: Manage and deliver the ALRC's online communications, including social media engagement, posting and audience growth, website development, e-newsletters and liaising with external web developers as necessary; Events: Work with legal teams to design, organise, publicise and deliver ALRC events to showcase the work and enhance the profile of the ALRC and facilitate engagement with stakeholders and the general public; Project-based communications: Summarise and present the work of the ALRC in a way that is accessible to the broader community, including by providing expert guidance and professional development to the ALRC research teams on communication styles (including Plain English and design/graphics); and initiate and implement innovative, inquiry-specific communications strategies, such as videos, online surveys, and content in a range of accessible formats; and Other tasks: If required, manage the external editing, layout and production of ALRC publications, including inquiry reports and the annual report.
This includes managing supplier relationships with external editors, designers and printers as needed.
