The Emergency Department sees an increasing number of presentations, with an average of 80-110 per day (29,000 presentations per year).
There is a wide variety of presentations including trauma and resuscitation to less urgent presentations.
Approximately 25% of presentations are paediatrics.
The Emergency Department interfaces with Internal Medicine, Critical Care Unit (including ICU, HDU and CCU beds), General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Geriatrics/Rehabilitation, Medical Oncology, and Mental Health services.
The health service has recently completed a major redevelopment, including the building of a new emergency department, ICU, and expansion of medical and paediatric units.
The University of Melbourne's rural clinical school is located onsite.
The Job This is an exciting opportunity for ED Consultants to work in an expanding emergency department.
The department is growing with an additional 10 FTE Consultants being appointed into newly-created positions, supported by newly-created positions at the Registrar and HMOlevel You will be working in a blended FACEM, FACRRM, FRACGP department.
The department is ACRRM accredited and a roadmap is in place for ACEM accreditation in the near future The sub-regional department experiences a complex and high acuity patient load allowing you to utilise your full spectrum of emergency skills The organisational structure encompasses a Clinical Director (CDES), FACEM –Emergency Physician, Emergency Senior Doctor in Charge, Junior Medical staff and Interns You will have the opportunity to be involved in research including in multicentre collaborations, and regular departmental sessions Consultants will also be involved with the supervision and education of interns, HMOs and medical students Flexible full time or fractional appointments are available.
Fly-in-fly out is an option.
