The Emergency Department sees an increasing number of presentations, with an average of 80-110 per day (29,000 presentations per year).
There is a wide variety of presentations including trauma and resuscitation to less urgent presentations.
Approximately 25% of presentations are paediatrics.
The Emergency Department interfaces with Internal Medicine, Critical Care Unit (including ICU, HDU and CCU beds), General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Geriatrics/Rehabilitation, Medical Oncology, and Mental Health services.
The health service has recently completed a major redevelopment, including the building of a new emergency department, ICU, and expansion of medical and paediatric units.
The University of Melbourne's rural clinical school is located onsite, and its education facilities include a simulation lab and skills centre.
The Job This is an exciting opportunity for ED Registrars to work in a hands-on position in an expanding unit.
The Department is growing with an additional 8.5 FTE Registrars being appointed into newly created positions, supported by newly created positions at the HMO and Consultant level.
You will be regularly exposed to the management of trauma and critically unwell patients in the resuscitation area allowing you to develop your skills experiencing the full spectrum of emergency care.
You will be working in a blended FACEM, FACRRM, FRACGP department with pathways to Rural Generalist or Critical Care training, and a roadmap for ACEM accreditation in the near future.
Contracts are available for immediate start and into the 2025 clinical year.
Registrars will benefit from dedicated training time and there is the opportunity to undertake the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate or Diploma as well as further training in ultrasound.
You will have the opportunity to be involved in research including in multicentre collaborations, and regular departmental sessions.
Registrars will also be involved with the supervision and education of interns, HMOs and medical students.
