Strategy & Precincts is a group within the Department of Transport and Planning, responsible for providing policy direction, planning and innovation leadership for integrated land and transport outcomes.
The Data & Digital division sits within Strategy & Precincts, providing the department with operational excellence for data and digital enabled services and project execution for large scale design and uplift initiatives.

About the Role The Engagement & Communications Lead, situated within the Data & Digital Engagement and Assurance branch, operates as a pivotal member of a team of trusted advisors.
They oversee critical aspects of planning, engagement, and communication, ensuring alignment of the Data & Digital engagement roadmap with Department priorities.
Integral to their role is maintaining Data & Digital's internal visibility across the Department through adept internal communications, including executive communications, and fostering meaningful stakeholder interactions.
They collaborate closely with Data & Digital teams to advocate for and promote their initiatives and programs effectively within the organisation.
Position Outcomes / Accountabilities Supported the continuous implementation of communications activities - Facilitated the ongoing execution of communications activities outlined in the Data & Digital Communications & Engagement Strategy, fostering divisional culture, highlighting team achievements, and elevating the visibility of Data & Digital leadership.
Cultivated strong stakeholder relations - Established and maintained robust stakeholder relations within Data & Digital and across DTP business areas, playing a crucial role in content planning and creation to enhance internal and external communication.
Provided strategic advice for effective workforce engagement - Offered strategic advice to Data & Digital leadership, guiding the communication of programs, milestones, and initiatives to ensure effective workforce engagement and buy-in.
Collaborated with Internal Communications & leveraged channels - Collaborated with DTP Internal Communications, utilising existing channels to showcase the role of Data & Digital, promoting its programs, and highlighting achievements to the wider organisation.
Supported implementation and monitoring of communication effectiveness – Supported establishment and monitored key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the impact and effectiveness of communication and engagement initiatives within the Data & Digital division, ensuring continuous evaluation and improvement based on data-driven insights.
Promoted and supported safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.
Key Selection Criteria To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will need to excel in communicating with impact by identifying crucial messages for decision-making and providing strategic advice that influences and meets the needs of diverse audiences.
The candidate must demonstrate accomplished stakeholder management skills identifying and managing a range of complex and often competing needs, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships by addressing common issues and understanding stakeholders' underlying needs within their organisational context.
They should be adept at partnering and co-creation, identifying users/stakeholders/experts to actively collaborate in the design process to understand needs, obtain ideas and input to build change and communication plans to drive appropriate buy-in.
Additionally, their ability to understand political and organisational contexts, comfortably deal with changed priorities and respond quickly to changes, and adapt strategies, content, style and messaging to suit diverse stakeholder audiences.
Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or relevant professional working experience in these fields.
Previous experience in successfully supporting and implementing communication strategies within a professional environment, particularly related to internal communications.
Driver's License.
Desirable Experience in working in internal communications in a public sector government role, demonstrating a solid understanding of the unique challenges and dynamics of such environments.
Track record of preparing comprehensive communications plans in an issues-rich environment, showcasing the ability to navigate and address complex communication challenges effectively.
Experience writing for Executive and Senior Leaders across a variety of mediums, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of tone, messaging, and strategic alignment.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Knowledge and/or background in Transport and/or Planning.
