Provide expert advice on environmental issues like biodiversity, stormwater, and sustainability.
Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to shape policy and strategy for impactful change.
Two permanent full-time positions available.
About the Role In this role, you will provide environmental input into statutory planning applications and strategic planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Include: Undertake site inspections of development application sites and ensure compliance with required environmental legislation and relevant planning permit conditions.
Provide assistance and advice to Council staff undertaking construction and maintenance works to ensure that planning permit conditions and legislative requirements are adhered to.
Provide staff training in relation to planning permit processes and environmental legislation (as required).
Respond to and support biodiversity and sustainability initiatives as they emerge internally and externally of Council.
Assist in the development and implementation of Council policies and strategies in relation to environmental planning.
Actively participate in Council's Green Space Referral Group and the regional Biodiversity Planners Network.
About You To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science with experience in environmental planning in a service-delivery organisation and excellent communication skills.
Essential Experience: Sound knowledge of the Victorian Planning System within local government and understanding of the Victorian Native Vegetation Clearing Guidelines.
Theoretical and practical knowledge to interpret town planning legislation and statutory planning processes.
Ability to provide in-field advice to stakeholders to avoid and minimise environmental impacts from a range of projects.
Ability to work effectively with a large range of internal and external stakeholders.
Provide advice and assistance to Council, Council officers, and the community on biodiversity and ecological issues.
Experience in the preparation and prioritisation of business plans for Environment Programs.
