About the Role: The Group Manager Power Development role will form part of AGL's Power Development leadership team with a mandate to meet targets set out under AGL's recently approved Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP), which will transition AGL's generation portfolio from thermal assets to renewable energy and storage.
We are currently building a pipeline of projects to meet our targets of 5 GW by 2030 and 12 GW by 2035, and are looking for experienced and talented people to join the team to deliver on these goals.
This role will contribute to the development and execution of AGL's energy transition strategy by identifying and progressing renewable generation and energy storage growth opportunities including potential acquisitions, and the disciplined development of new projects.
The role is accountable for developing high capital value generation projects for submission to AGL Board.
You will lead a Project Development team through mentoring and development of Power Developers and Managers to coordinate internal and external resources throughout the development phases, implementing complex projects within the NEM to meet time, cost, quality, risk, and safety requirements.
What you'll be doing: Your key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Taking the lead role in negotiating high value contracts for power plant construction, transmission connection, real estate, consultancies, and other agreements necessary to deliver power projects.
Manage due diligence inputs for potential acquisitions.
Co-ordinate and lead internal and external resources to obtain all permits, licenses required for the construction and operation of power projects.
Identify, manage, and report on key risks.
Ensure that AGL's competitive advantages are maximized by identifying new opportunities for generation development, acquisition, and investment by AGL.
Monitor and advise on development expenditures against budgets and progress against schedules.
Develop business cases for the approval of power generation opportunities for Board approval.
About You: Ideally, you will be a qualified Engineer, Commercial or Project Management professional with strong technical and commercial experience in the development of large-scale renewable generation projects, including wind, solar or storage through project conception to final investment decision and handover to the Construction team.
What you'll bring to the table: Advanced leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Significant experience in the power industry in similar development roles.
Deep understanding of NEM rules and connection requirements for projects.
Exposure to development process from concept to investment commitment.
Understanding of energy markets and value drivers for large scale generation projects, in particular renewables and storage.
Experience negotiating high value contracts.
Experience engaging with key external stakeholders and public representation in local communities.
