About the Role
Lead the end-user support operations for the University's research computing and data services, providing strategic direction to enhance these services in line with research needs. This role requires a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in both research computing and data infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on improving user experiences. Responsibilities include building strong stakeholder relationships, fostering a service-oriented culture, and ensuring robust, reliable systems. The role will be focused on creating a five-year roadmap, supporting the research community, and driving operational improvements in service delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the creation of a 5-year service roadmap aimed at enhancing user experience and improving the quality and effectiveness of RCS's research computing and data services to support research at the University of Melbourne
Engaging research communities and key stakeholders to develop and implement policies, services, and projects that drive innovation in University's research computing and data infrastructure
Developing continuous improvement plans for research computing and data services, ensuring alignment with research needs and compliance with relevant State and Federal regulations
Overseeing the implementation of security policies for the Secure Research Environment, mitigating cybersecurity risks and ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 27001 certification
Who We Are Looking For
You will have strong leadership skills, capable of motivating and inspiring teams by setting clear expectations, offering guidance, and supporting professional development. Your proven track record in providing strategic advice to senior management and leading the delivery of evidence-based policies is crucial. Additionally, your interpersonal and analytical skills, along with a deep understanding of the University's research computing and data landscape, enable you to build relationships, foster collaboration, and resolve conflicts effectively.
You will also have:
A postgraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience
Extensive knowledge of data management, storage and cloud computing technologies currently deployed at the University, as well as emerging technologies in the market
Proven ability to successfully translate complex research IT-related challenges into solutions or services that meet the needs of a research-intensive environment
Extensive experience in successfully managing large-scale research IT infrastructure & services with basic financial analysis
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
