These changes will slash travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne's east.
Symal is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Laing O'Rourke, Arcadis and WSP.
Our scope of work includes a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels, major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road, smart traffic management technology upgrades and new noise protection to meet Victoria's toughest traffic noise standards.
The local community will also benefit from new and upgraded walking and cycling connections, upgrades to Koonung Creek Reserve and revitalised wetlands and open spaces.
The role: As our Alliance continues to grow, we are looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join the Health & Safety team in a permanent role.
Reporting to the Package Health & Safety Manager, you will support and facilitate the implementation of Eastern BTA's HSE Management System and Project HSE Management Plans in accordance with the Alliance requirements.
You will be key in educating employees on both industry best practice and legislative compliance requirements.
Your every day: Implement the project HSE Management Plans and associated sub plans.
Coach and mentor project personnel in HSE matters including client contractual obligations.
Understand and implement HSE legislation and associated client procedures.
Able to complete, supervise and mentor accident investigations up to and including Potential Class 1.
Assist with preparation of SWMS and Construction Method Statements to encompass the relevant construction processes.
Conduct Health & Safety inspections on-site.
Conduct risk assessment workshops.
Conduct Toolbox talks and Inductions.
Ensure all staff and supply chain are appropriately trained to NELSA HSE standards and comply with NELSA HSE procedures.
Identify HSE training needs and develop and deliver HSE training so that all staff, consultants and supply chain are aware of their HSE obligations.
Ensure accurate and up to date documentation and information relating to HSE is collected, reported, disseminated and stored in a manner that improves HSE communication across the Project.
Assist in the development of HSE standards and processes to ensure the Project(s) complies with client, contractual obligations and regulator, governance requirements.
Monitor and conduct regular HSE governance activities within the project sites.
Contributing to Project planning and procurement to ensuring plans and procedures include HSE standards and client contractual requirements.
Ensure the company's HSE standards are understood and upheld at your workplace.
Proactively deal with HSE and concerns, by engaging with the people performing the task or activity.
Foster a culture of respect for the environment and communities in which we work to minimise impacts.
Further responsibilities for health, safety and wellness as specified in the relevant project specific management plans.
Who are you? Certificate IV in OHS or related.
More than 4 years experience within Health & Safety, preferably for a tier 1 or 2 construction company.
More than 2 years construction site-based experience, preferably on a major infrastructure, road or rail project.
Hands-on and demonstrated experience in assisting supervision and management with HSE issue/action closeout within the workplace.
Reports and systems knowledge with the ability to utilise technology/different systems proficiently (ICAM, RRTWC, RIW preferred).
Ability to travel to and work from site offices in the eastern suburbs.
