The Youth Engagement and Pathways Unit is seeking a Program Assistant to support the development and delivery of the Young Mayors Program in the Hume municipality.
The Program Assistant role involves supporting young people aged 11 to 17 years throughout the program, from their nomination and campaign process to serving their term in office.
As part of the Youth Engagement and Pathways team, the Program Assistant will support the campaigning and election process, facilitation of regular meetings with the youth council, provide project guidance, and liaise with council, schools, and the broader community to advocate for the youth council's interests.
What you'll be doing: Collaborate closely with FYA's Young Mayors Program Manager and Hume City Council's Youth Support Officer to support the implementation of program plans and coordination of program activities.
Assist young people in nominating themselves and campaigning for positions on the youth council with a focus on encouraging diverse participation.
Support the youth council's development of priority action areas, and assist in planning, and scheduling.
Assist the Youth Support Officer to gather data for program evaluation and identify opportunities for storytelling related to the youth council's experience and outcomes.
Maintain relevant documentation in relation to young people's attendance and participation in youth services programs.
Assist Youth Services staff in delivering presentations and facilitating workshops with large groups, including young people and school communities.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with the youth council, FYA's Program Manager, Hume City Council staff, councillors, and other stakeholders including the parents/guardians of young participants.
Support the exploration of additional opportunities for young participants in the Young Mayors program to get involved in other initiatives offered by FYA and Hume City Council.
The skills and experience you'll bring to the role: Tertiary qualification in youth work/community services or a lesser formal qualification with relevant experience.
Previous experience in supporting the development and delivery of programs for young people aged 11 to 18 years using a youth participation and strengths-based frameworks.
Experience facilitating structured groups such as youth committees and groups, and presenting to stakeholder groups.
Understanding of the needs and challenges of young people in Hume and surrounds.
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including schools, sports clubs, community organisations to achieve enhanced outcomes for children and young people.
Good administration and project management skills, and effective organisational and time management skills.
