Could the skills you build here unlock doors anywhere?
At EY we believe that whoever you are, your uniqueness helps us stand apart.
We bring together extraordinary people, like you, to build a better working world.
What's in it for you?
We are looking for a Junior Lawyer to join our high performing and growing Tax Law and Controversy team in Melbourne. We provide an end-to-end Tax Law and Controversy service to our clients, which enables the role to have a lot of variety. You will advise clients on a broad range of tax matters with a focus on the technical and tactical management of all things tax. This includes tax administration and complex tax issues including transfer pricing and the anti-avoidance rules. You will also assist our clients in all stages on the tax disputes lifecycle – including tax law advice, binding rulings, voluntary disclosures, ATO reviews, ATO audits, the Part IVC process, evidentiary matters, advice on legal professional privilege and dispute resolution including settlement and litigation.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Advising a range of clients, from large corporates to private groups to high-net-worth individuals.
Researching matters of tax administration, getting involved in dispute resolution processes and helping clients respond to requests for information in the context of ATO reviews and audits.
Drafting objections, private binding ruling requests, requests for amended assessments and submissions on tax technical matters, penalties and interest.
What we're looking for:
Here's our 'wish list' but don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes. We're interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.
To qualify for the role, you must have:
1-3 years post admission experience in legal practice
Sound tax technical skills
Ability to develop strong and broad relationships with clients and provide a high level of client service
Ability to work with a number of different clients and internal stakeholders on multiple deadlines
Ideally, you will also have:
