The Employer: Our clients are a family-owned and managed business located south of Marnoo in the Wimmera district of Victoria.
The company operates a 3500-ha mixed enterprise farming system over two leading enterprises—a 3,000-head Stud Merino flock and a 2,000-ha dryland cropping operation based on 450mm of annual rainfall.
The livestock and cropping operations are driven by results backed by continual investment in new ideas and technology.
The Merino stud, founded in 1978, currently runs 3000 ewes and utilises the latest technology to enhance genetic gain through ASBVs, DNA and stringent visual classing; it is at the forefront of the Poll Merino industry.
It is a renowned leader of innovation, depth, and service to the industry, impacting both stud and commercial growers across Australia and abroad.
The Role: We are looking for a competent and enthusiastic livestock operations manager with a strong interest in intensive sheep breeding who will use innovation, technology, and data to track and improve performance to join this team.
Reporting to the owner and working with the whole farm team will be critical to the sheep operation's success.
With already consistently high scanning and weaning rates, supported by elite genetics, quality pastures and supplementary feeding, there is a challenge for the livestock operations manager in continuing the trajectory of improvement.
The Ideal Candidate: As the livestock operations Manager, you will be a natural leader who can work harmoniously within a dynamic team.
You will have a passion for agriculture, particularly sheep, and previous farming experience.
You will be required to work in all business areas physically and collaborate with all employees involved.
You will also be required to be actively involved in planning and budgeting across the livestock operations.
To be considered for this position, the successful applicant will ideally possess the following: At least six years of sheep-focused livestock operation/management experience.
Demonstrated ability to organise and execute day-to-day operations.
Desire to grow within the role and develop skills.
Tidy in self-presentation and farm presentation.
Sound basis of computer knowledge & documentation.
Delegate & prioritise tasks and staff.
Good communicator.
