About the role: The Manager, Regulatory Strategy and National Reform manages a team responsible for leading the Health Regulator's engagement in various national policy forums and committees, and strategic policy projects across a range of subject matter areas.
The team is one of four in the Regulatory Reform and Policy unit within the Health Regulator branch of the Department of Health.
The team comprises 8 staff (including the Manager) and has reform and policy responsibilities across several areas including food safety, radiation and workforce regulation.
The Manager is a key part of the Regulatory Reform and Policy unit's leadership group.
The role includes coordination and input into the Food Ministers' Meeting and subcommittees, the Health Ministers' Meeting and subcommittees, and other national committees and forums, and leading key policy projects relevant to these forums as required.
The team is also responsible for developing and coordinating implementation of the Health Regulator's 2024-26 Regulatory Strategy, which sets out the Health Regulator's priorities and action plan for the next two years, and undertaking other strategic projects across the branch.
How you'll make a difference: Lead the Regulatory Strategy and National Reform team to: Lead and coordinate the Health Regulator's contribution to and representation on various national policy forums and committees, including the Food Ministers' Meeting and subcommittees, Health Ministers' meeting and subcommittees, and other national forums and committees relevant to the Health Regulator.
Lead engagement with a range of national stakeholders including Food Standards Australia New Zealand, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority, the National Health Practitioner Ombudsman (including managing the Department's role as host jurisdiction for the NHPO), national radiation bodies, and other jurisdictional regulators and health departments.
Build and maintain positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of policy and reform projects.
Lead development of the Health Regulator's Regulatory Strategy 2024-26.
Lead other strategic policy projects across areas of responsibility including food safety, radiation and workforce regulation.
Lead horizon scanning to inform regulatory strategy and policy development relevant to the Health Regulator.
Contribute to other projects across the Regulatory Reform and Policy unit as required.
Effectively supervise and provide leadership to a team of employees by: Leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contributing to organisational goals and outcomes.
Modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values.
Where relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility.
Extensive experience coaching, developing and managing a team.
Extensive experience in change management and providing positive and constructive leadership during and following change management periods.
Proven ability to operate in accordance with delegated authority, consistent with departmental and government policies.
Where responsible for overseeing, monitoring or delivering projects, ensure they are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation and government regulations and guidelines.
