Manager - Strategy, Policy and Operations, Office of the Chief Psychiatrist Job posted: 13/09/2024 Reference: VG/1819795 Occupation: Policy Salary Range: $134,593 - $180,115 The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians.
We're focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research.
About the role: The Manager, Strategy, Policy and Operations supports the work of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist (OCP) to facilitate the provision of high quality and responsive public mental health services.
The position provides operational and policy advice to the Chief Psychiatrist and is responsible for leading and managing key projects and other activities supporting the work of the OCP.
The position works closely with the Chief Psychiatrist and the Clinical Manager to plan and coordinate the strategic direction of the OCP including projects supporting the clinical leadership and quality and safety functions of the OCP to meet statutory obligations in accordance with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
With responsibility for a team of policy, project and administrative staff, this role has responsibility for leading and supporting the operational functions of the OCP.
How you'll make a difference: Lead the operational aspects of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, including management of the team, advice and strategy development and policy work.
Provide clear leadership in relation to key stakeholders, especially intergovernmental stakeholders, with timely expert advice, open and effective communication strategies, and the need to balance complex, contentious or sensitive information.
Represent the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist on key committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives, leading relevant committee and governance processes.
Ensure alignment of the work of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, particularly quality and safety responsibilities, with key stakeholders including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission and Safer Care Victoria.
Manage the implementation of recommendations of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System and implementation of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 as they relate to the role of the Chief Psychiatrist.
Provide operational leadership to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, considering processes and workloads and balancing competing needs to enable office staff to provide consistent high quality clinical leadership to the sector.
Provide strategic leadership to the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.
Support future planning and oversee change management initiatives and integrated approaches to enhance the work of the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.
Effectively supervise and provide leadership to a team of employees.
Proactively establish and maintain productive and consultative relationships with peers and stakeholders across the department and with external stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach.
Identify emerging issues, risks, and trends impacting the successful achievement of key business objectives and imperatives, providing high quality business intelligence and sound recommendations based on comprehensive research and investigations.
