COMMISSIONERS• Inaugural leadership roles • Safeguard rights • Shape the sector About the organisation The Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission (the Commission) is being established in response to the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.
A statutory authority to commence planning and design in early 2023 with formal operations likely to start in mid-2023, the new Commission will be an independent and impartial body that will hold the government to account, reinvigorate system leadership and elevate the leadership of people with lived experience, lead and monitor system reform and be responsible for mental health and wellbeing services complaints.
The new Commission will be led by a Chair Commissioner and three Commissioners, including at least one person with lived experience of mental illness or psychological distress, and one family member, carer or supporter.
About the roles Commissioners will be collectively responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Commission, setting organisation's culture, reputation, relationships, and operating procedures.
As well as leading required determinations and decisions, Commissioners will collectively ensure that the organisation remains accessible, supportive and responsive to community needs, and collaborate effectively with consumers, their carers and families,providers and existing bodies.
About you Commissioners will be dynamic leaders with passion for supporting lived experience leadership, and experience in improving the quality and safety of health service systems, at both an individual and systemic level.
You will have senior executive achievements in mental health, health, disability, social services or a related filed, with proven exceptional people and organisational leadership skills.
With a focus on relationships, you will have knowledge of the regulatory context and statutory roles and responsibility, including relevant qualifications and ideally, relevant lived experience leadership.
Your awareness, passion and ability to foster innovation match your commitment, capabilities in legislatively based decision making, and fostering change that will help transform the mental health sector.
