As a Power Systems Engineer , you will lead the technical design, integration, and optimisation of large-scale BESS projects, ensuring the systems operate efficiently and in compliance with Australian grid standards.
Key Responsibilities Lead the design, modelling, and implementation of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Perform power system studies, including load flow, fault current, and stability analysis for BESS integration.
Design electrical systems, including protection schemes, single-line diagrams, and layouts for BESS projects.
Ensure compliance with Australian grid connection requirements (NEM) and regulatory standards.
Conduct feasibility studies, grid impact assessments, and technical evaluations for new BESS projects.
Collaborate with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to deliver technical solutions for BESS installations.
Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of BESS systems to ensure optimal performance.
Liaise with grid operators, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders for grid integration and project approval processes.
Provide technical expertise in selecting and integrating advanced battery technologies.
Prepare technical documentation, including reports, specifications, and operating procedures.
Stay up to date with developments in energy storage technology and best practices for utility-scale deployment.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers on BESS projects and power systems design.
Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
Postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.
Minimum of 5+ years' experience in the design and implementation of utility-scale energy storage systems, particularly BESS.
Strong understanding of power system analysis, grid integration, and renewable energy technologies.
Knowledge of grid connection processes, regulatory compliance, and Australian energy market requirements (NEM).
Proficiency with power systems modelling software such as Power Factory, ETAP, or PSS/E.
Experience in project management, with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
