Role Responsibilities: Leading and growing a small design team, including mentoring some junior engineers.
Competent in breaking down larger design scopes into small parts to assess hours for each stage and provide a competitive offer for our clients (tendering).
Managing scopes within agreed budget of hours with best utilising resources available, including overseas.
Undertake design duties across all facets of the company's engineering services under the general area of Specialised Temporary Works Design, from concept through to construction while considering the impact on permanent works.
Specialist skills in FEM modelling desired.
Our software palette is Space Gass, Midas Civil, Strand7, Autodesk suite incl Robot, Tekla Structures/Tedds.
Acquire/reinforce/expand on knowledge in your area of expertise under the guidance and mentoring of senior professionals.
Work within the Design Team to conceptualise structural solutions, embrace agreed concept, and further develop structural designs & documentation to required level of completion.
Efficiently utilise, and where required undergo training on specialist structural design software including current and future.
Coordinate with the design team and transfer information clearly to drafter/detailer.
Ensure, check that design intent is clearly translated onto drawings without potential for misunderstandings.
Be responsible for your design and associated design documentation, ensuring timely flow of information, and to ensure design-related issues are resolved efficiently and cost-effectively.
Always work to minimise design risk and ensure all design is robust.
Assist with technical input and estimates to assist with Tenders and Proposals.
Discuss priorities with your Line Manager, especially when faced with multiple tasks to complete, limited time, and/or conflicting deadlines.
Give regular updates on progress and give advance notice if deadline cannot be met.
Complete timesheets regularly.
Minimum Requirements, Skills and Attitude: Preferably be registered as Chartered Engineer (Structural) with Engineers Australia (or aspiring to do so within 6 months).
Some site experience and a practical attitude to solving construction related problems.
Experience in complex structural engineering, such as complex bridge projects.
Structural degree with sound to advanced ability in structural steel and concrete design.
Good understanding of structural systems and load path based on first principles.
Familiar with Australian Standard Design Codes of Practice.
Competency with 3 D structural analysis software.
Proactive problem-solving capability.
Attention to detail and accuracy in all facets of work.
Computer literacy including MS Outlook, Word, Excel.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Strong communication and report writing skills.
Work well in a team.
Honest and trustworthy, possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
