Full time Ongoing position Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available) We are seeking a savvy and adaptable commercial lawyer to join our team as a Senior Solicitor in the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.
About the role This position is a senior member in the Commercial Law Unit within the Legal and Legislation Branch which deals with (among other things) funding arrangements, intellectual property, licensing, property including leasing, international offices and major projects.
The responsibilities of the Principal solicitor will include: Providing authoritative and strategic advice on complex and sensitive legal, legislative and policy issues and proposals.
Drafting and reviewing a range of legal documentation, including agreements and instruments, dealing with highly sensitive and complex issues, including development of precedents and conduct negotiations to settle documentation.
Managing the delivery of legal services, including provision of legal and legislative services by external providers to ensure high quality advice and value for money.

To succeed in the role, you will need: Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and authoritative advice on legal and commercial issues.
Experience in negotiation and drafting a wide range of legal documentation particularly in the commercial context.

Demonstrated ability to autonomously manage a diverse range of matters with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
