Lead the change, from the frontline In this newly created position, the Senior Engineer is responsible for technical leadership of all engineers in their Agile Scrum Squad, spanning the pre-production environment, co-developing products and technical solutions, through to BAU (Business As Usual) operations and maintenance to deliver innovative e Mobility technical capabilities for Shell Energy.
This unique role is placed at the intersection between e Mobility cloud software and EV (Electric Vehicle) charging hardware.
Based in Melbourne , the Senior Engineer is a technical leader with Agile experience to work with a number of technologies and architectural approaches to uplift Shell Energy's skilled technology delivery capability and remediate technical debt.
The Senior Engineer will initially be very hands-on while developing the foundational processes, practices and systems, with a view to scaling up Shell Energy's e Mobility technical capacity in line with sales growth.
The Senior Engineer will be required to not only support the business to develop new features with ongoing operations and maintenance in mind, but also to actively participate in product support and remediating technical debt.
To be successful in this role, you will, in close collaboration with other Engineers and the Architecture and Enablement team, lead your team to deliver industry world class outcomes which are operationalised and productionised to provide capability to Shell Energy to implement its strategic plans as well as flex to meet future business needs.
This role will be able the introduction of new ways of working through the adoption of best practices in Software Engineering, Cloud Services, Test Automation, CI/CD, Site Reliability Engineering and new Application Architectures (specifically Microservice Architectures and Event Driven Application Architectures).

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities Support the selection and adoption of key technology recommendations from architecture; Support the establishment and maintenance of squad level solution architectures; Support squad adoption of common frameworks, patterns and standards; Support squad adoption of controls to protect data at rest and in transit; Contribute to architecture decisions on technology selection and usage; Participate in the architectural design of product solutions; Develop and extend frameworks and standards to guide Dev Ops engineering practices; Evaluate stability, compatibility, sustainability, scalability, interoperability, security and performance of the digital solutions; Introduce and maintain modern engineering practices; Mature robust solution design, architecture and code review practices to ensure frameworks and standards are followed; Partner with product owners to create, refine, estimate and elaborate your team's backlog of work and clarify ambiguity; Work with squad members, architects, data scientists and/or business stakeholders as necessary; Develop new skills through hands on coaching; Transition to service-based architectures and cloud ready solutions; Mentor team members to explore alternate approaches to solving problems through prototyping, Po C (Proof of Concept), Experiments and learn through Failing Fast; Drive high-quality Dev Ops friendly software features, components, and modules which support key cross functional requirements such as scalability, fault tolerance and security; Ensure all deliverables have the appropriate level of unit, integration and/or functional tests and thus can be measured against defined acceptance criteria; Advance Continuous Integration and Build practices to improve the effectiveness of software engineering; Accelerate Continuous Delivery/Deployment, production ready principles; Grow accountability for day-to-day operation of components, services, modules and applications owned by the squad – we believe in "you build it, you run it"; Monitor and manage the hosted software service; Remove technical impediments and proactively pay down technical debt.
What you'll bring Here's what you'll need to thrive in this role: Extensive experience in a Senior Engineer role; Excellent interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching and collaboration; Excellent stakeholder management skills; Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence broad communities of technical experts; The ability to balance the long term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions; Innovative and questioning mindset to explore ideas and prototype solutions; Experience applying agile development practices, including knowledge of Scrum; Advanced understanding of security for web applications & network architectures; Demonstrate understanding of Cloud architecture patterns, specifically CSMS (Charging Station Management System); Understand complexities associated with a distributed system; Experience with virtualisation and cloud solutions and how these can be applied to complex enterprise systems; Experience applying integration technologies, including messaging middleware and modern API-driven approaches; A firm grasp on the latest technology trends in industry, and those specifically relating to e Mobility; Knowledge and understanding of e Mobility:– Industry standards, policies, practices and protocols– CSMS architectures, data models, communications protocols– EVSE architecture, communications and signalling protocol Experience in:– Network Support and Operations (CPO)– Automation and integration (API, OCPI)– Process development, documentation, reporting– Test lab, test equipment and analysers (EVSE – OCPP, PWM/PAM, etc)– Simulations, prototypes, experiments, Po Cs and trials.
