What's the job? We are offering an exciting opportunity to help shape Australia's newest Psychology School, as a Senior Lecturer (Senior Learning Facilitator) at Torrens University.
The position will be based in our Melbourne city campus and will include on campus as well as online teaching, subject development, subject coordination in our new Bachelor of Psychological Science degree, and new course planning and development.
The teaching component of the role requires knowledge and teaching experience across a wide range of psychological content areas, potentially including personality, social, biological, cognitive, developmental, and psychological assessment, with an emphasis on real world applications.
The subject development and improvement component of the role require previous course development or improvement experience, and the subject coordination and course planning aspects of the role require previous experience in subject or course administration and/ or planning.
The role also includes a research component, leading and conducting research into the School's emerging research specialties.
These specialties include wellbeing and mental health, emerging areas of psychology including the psychology of virtual reality, gender and indigenous experience, and the use of technology in education.
The Senior Learning Facilitator/Lecturer is an academic role involving teaching and scholarship and, where agreed, research.
Extra non-teaching responsibilities may be allocated based on program needs and the incumbent's individual skills, expertise and development.
The permanent position is based at Flinders Street Campus, Melbourne, is 4-days per week (0.8 FTE) and starts in January 2025.
We would like to appoint in 2024 for a 2025 start.
The Torrens School of Psychological Science features: Whole student success focused on learning and teaching, including professional success and life success as well as academic success.

A Bachelor of Psychological Sciences degree which is a stand-alone professional qualification, equipping its graduates for a wide range of existing and emerging professions, as well as a potential pathway to further psychology degrees and registration as a psychologist.
Flexible state of the learning art delivery including next generation online and blended learning, and inclusion of Virtual Reality content and real-life challenge-based learning.
Principal Accountabilities include: Teaching/Learning Facilitation deliver lectures, seminars, forums, workshops/practical sessions and tutorials, both online and on campus using innovative learning and teaching practices, prepare, review and update teaching materials as identified by the Program Director or in response to quality measures Research and Scholarship contribute to research and research output aligned with the discipline.
Research must align with the university's strategic plan, and time commitment as agreed with line manager maintain professional proficiency/currency through a self-directed program of academic scholarship Industry and Professional Practice maintain and engage with industry professional connections, strategic alliances and relevant professional bodies including industrial, commercial and public organisations Academic Leadership supervise or mentor academic staff ,lead projects in the area of research, entrepreneurship, research learning and teaching or innovation, coordinate subjects, sites, small programs and other academic activity Collaboration, Outcomes and Innovation collaborate with other academic staff across Torrens Global Education to influence group approaches and identify best practice in teaching and learning Who you are: To be successful in this role, you will have: Significant knowledge of specific Psychology subject areas combined with a broad disciplinary background enabling broad contributions to teaching programs.
Broad experience in tertiary education, including teaching, course leadership and ideally, curriculum development.
Understanding of pedagogical and/or adult learning principles relevant to the student cohort being taught.
A Ph D in Psychology.
A whole student centered approach to teaching and learning.
A strong research track record in an area related to wellbeing and mental health.
Further required skills: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and commitment to continuous professional development.
Ability to work competently and harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.
High service ethos and work commitment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
