The opportunity The Senior Legal Counsel provides trusted and practical legal advice across the business, encompassing a broad range of practice areas including contracts, construction, commercial law, and statutory interpretation. The role has a focus on construction and delivery of essential infrastructure, bringing expertise in contract development and negotiation to mitigate risk and optimise efficiency. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced practitioner to work in an autonomous environment that is inclusive and supportive and provides opportunity to mentor junior practitioners. Responsibilities Provide authoritative legal advice to the business, including at Executive leadership level on complex legal issues, identify emerging legal issues and provide specialist expertise particularly in construction and infrastructure delivery. Provide strategic and practical legal support across a diverse range of services including contractual drafting and negotiation, managing complex disputes and litigation, and ensuring consistent approaches to legal matters in line with enterprise priorities and policies. Provide legal training to contribute to internal capability building, offer professional leadership, drive change and excellence within the Legal & Governance team, and support the development legal policies and procedures. Skills & Experience Tertiary qualification in Law. Admitted to practice as an Australian legal practitioner under the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014. Previous experience in post-admission, working in similar roles with minimal supervision, preferably within the construction and/or government sectors. Demonstrated experience in one or more areas of technical knowledge required for the role. Demonstrated experience in litigation civil and criminal procedure.
