About This Role Utilise your policy expertise to provide support and advice to the Integrity Regulation and Legal Services branch Ongoing, full-time opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service Contribute to a dynamic and busy team Lead policy and legislation reforms in the major crime and investigative powers space within the Attorney-General's portfolio VPS Grade 5: $109,730 - $132,764 plus superannuation.
About Us The Major Crime and Investigative Powers (MCIP) team, within the Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services (IRLS) group, delivers strategic policy and legislative projects that require targeted research and consultation with justice sector partners.
Ongoing projects led by the team include work in the major crime and criminal organisation, confiscation and investigative powers policy spaces as well as work related to the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants.
More broadly, the IRLS group supports the Attorney-General, other DJCS Ministers and the department by providing legal, policy, integrity and assurance expertise.
We work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure our work is strategic, relevant, holistic and people centred.
About The Role The Senior Legal Policy Officer is responsible for the co-ordination, development, implementation, review and reform of policy and legislation across the Attorney-General's portfolio, whilst providing considered, informed and authoritative advice to senior executives and government on key policy and legislation issues and system reform issues.
The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across projects within the team and more broadly across the IRLS group as required to meet the priorities of government.
Some Of Your Duties Will Include Developing and implementing legal policy proposals and initiatives within the Attorney-General's reform program.
Supporting the identification and implementation of project management processes to establish a stable framework for the monitoring, reporting and implementation of outcomes arising from complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring all timelines and dependencies are met.
Providing considered, informed and authoritative advice to the senior executives and government on key policy and legislation issues and system reform issues.
About You As an ideal candidate, you will possess: Knowledge and/or experience of legal policy and/or relevant legal practice.
Sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government administrative processes, policy development and legislative processes.
Experience in providing authoritative legal policy advice and developing and implementing significant and complex program or policy initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and provide accurate legal solutions.
Qualifications A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge of and/or experience of social policy or associated field and/or knowledge of law.
