Job Description Network Design and Integration works to deliver transport priorities through the development, delivery and maintenance of an integrated pipeline of projects supporting the Major Transport Infrastructure Program, plan Victoria's rail network, supports Road Safety Victoria and Freight Victoria.
Road Safety Victoria is a division within the Department of Transport and Planning and is responsible for leading the Victorian Government to achieve zero road fatalities by 2050.

About the Role The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for undertaking policy development, project management and stakeholder engagement on specific initiatives in relation to government policies, objectives and priorities for Road Safety, with an emphasis on vehicle safety, emerging vehicle technologies, connected and automated vehicles and micro mobility transport.
The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across the transport portfolio, industry and community groups to provide specialist advice on the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of policies, initiatives and programs.
Drawing on research evidence, expert opinion, community views and an awareness of the political climate, the Senior Policy Officer will shape and present advice that advances the Government's efforts to reduce road trauma.
To fulfill the role, the Senior Policy Officer will use creative and advanced problem-solving skills to independently resolve complex vehicle policy and regulatory issues and implement a consistent approach in their development and implementation.
Your adeptness in project management will ensure seamless coordination, timely completion, and successful delivery of various projects aimed at enhancing vehicle safety outcomes.
Your efforts will contribute to fostering a safety-focused transportation environment and promoting vehicle safety technologies.
The ideal applicant will have a track record in developing and delivering successful complex projects in a road safety, public policy or similar field.
Position Outcomes The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for leading the development and implementation of road safety policies, focusing on various topics including vehicle safety, emerging vehicle technology, and micro mobility transport.
This role involves providing expert advice and policy briefings to senior management and other government departments on road safety issues.
The officer exercises independent judgment to proactively identify technical challenges, manage scope, and mitigate risks while developing and managing projects.
This includes overseeing the full project lifecycle, from planning, budgeting, to tracking milestones and ensuring project goals are achieved.
Additionally, the Senior Policy Officer analyses data and crafts innovative solutions to complex problems, especially in situations where defined policies or procedures may not exist.
They communicate complex concepts clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
The role also requires negotiating with and influencing a range of stakeholders, including government departments and contractors, to develop new policies and deliver road safety outcomes successfully.
A well-developed understanding of interdepartmental protocols and political sensitivity is essential to build support for policy proposals.

Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Tertiary qualification in public policy, engineering or related field and relevant experience to the capabilities of the role.
Policy development experience.
Desirable Strong communication and negotiation skills and the ability to present complex information in a digestible form.
Experience in vehicle safety, intelligent transport systems or future transport.
Demonstrated understanding of road safety and safe system principles.
Experience working in the public sector policy would be advantageous.
