The team facilitates activities across policy, projects, and partnerships to help deliver the Victorian Government's objectives for a renewable, safe, affordable, and reliable energy system.
The Senior Policy Officer leads the data modelling priority work stream for the Victorian Energy Jobs Plan.
In particular, the Senior Policy Officer is responsible for interpreting and communicating meaningful data insights through graphic, Power Point and written formats for the Victorian Energy Jobs Plan and energy skills and workforce policy more broadly.
Data is delivered by external partners, and the Senior Policy Officer leads contract management, including managing consultant and Cooperative Research Centre relationships, ensuring milestones delivered to a high quality and managing approvals processes, and developing visual and written findings based on data outputs to support policy development.
In addition, the Senior Policy Officer undertakes research, engagement, and development of policy positions on emerging issues faced by the energy sector in transition, including providing written and verbal briefings, and managing engagement with national energy issues and Commonwealth processes.
The Senior Policy Officer also engages in horizon-scanning, policy development and engagement around specific emerging and pre-commercial energy technologies.
The position takes a strategic approach to develop and deliver a clear work program and requires strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, an ability to undertake nuanced analysis and political acumen.
The position also supports other priority projects on an ad-hoc basis and is part of a collaborative, high-performing team that also prioritises the adoption of innovative tools and agile work practices such as Agile sprint planning, allowing team members to work flexibly and support each other within a fast-paced environment.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications Senior experience in a policy role within government is highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience analysing and interpreting data for presentation to non-technical audiences, in particular, a demonstrated ability to communicate meaningful data insights and reinforce qualitative story telling with quantitative results is desirable.
Experience in the energy sector and industry development is desirable. Understanding of Victoria's tertiary education system is desirable.
Qualifications in economics or a similar discipline is desirable.
This is a fixed term position available for a period until 30 June 2025.
The work location for this position is East Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
