Well developed communication, networking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated capacity to deal with complex, sensitive and deeply personal issues and a commitment to the pro-active management of student behaviour and wellbeing.
Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and high level interpersonal skills including a capacity to develop constructive relationships with students, parents, outside agencies and teaching staff in the area of student wellbeing.
Demonstrated practical understanding of the educational and other needs of children, the capacity to contribute to the organisation of whole school improvement initiatives in the area of student wellbeing.
Demonstrated high level planning and organizational skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with teachers and other school personnel to support the educational needs of students.
Role Attendance requirement: 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday (part time option also available) The school social worker will report to the Assistant Principals and liaise with sub-school teams and community support agencies.
Provide counselling, support and advocacy to individuals and groups of students, and their parents, identified at risk.
Advocate on behalf of students and their families and refer students to outside agencies as appropriate.
Liaise with student managers, classroom teachers and other school personnel to support the educational needs of students.
Manage the liaison between students, parents and staff and Student Support Services personnel.
Assist families in financial need with uniform requirements, books and government and private welfare assistance.
Demonstrate experience and/or understanding of restorative practice approaches in a school context.
Work in partnership with Principal Class personnel, Leadership Team, Inclusion Coordinator, Year Level Coordinators, College Chaplin, Wellbeing Team and other relevant staff within a culture of continuous improvement to promote a climate of individual and organisational wellbeing.
Substantial knowledge of psychological intervention techniques and strategies and experience in providing professional development and training programs for teachers, teacher assistants and families and carers.
Responsibilities The responsibilities to be undertaken are to: Identify and assess student needs at an individual, familial or educational level through psychosocial assessments.
Case manage students and/or their families through monitoring of wellbeing and/or coordination of community supports.
Coordinate and implement therapeutic interventions for 1-1 and small groups.
Provide classroom-based support for teachers and education support staff.
Provide Critical Incident response and Duty of Care support.
Build staff capacity through professional learning and consultation.
Support Disability Inclusion Profile applications.
Maintain best practice of therapies and interventions in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
Maintain accurate and detailed confidential student records.
