The opportunity As a junior solicitor you will be responsible for providing effective and efficient legal advisory services and advocacy to support the Commissioner of State Revenue in matters arising from Acts administered by the State Revenue Office, including stamp duty, payroll tax and land tax.
You will have the opportunity to utilise and further develop your advisory and litigation skills, while undertaking meaningful legal work under the mentorship and guidance of experienced solicitors in a collaborative team environment.
Reporting to a Principal Solicitor, you will be able to: conduct your own litigation and advice case-load, with supportive legal supervision undertake legal research and interpret and apply legislation prepare and conduct cases for litigation at VCAT and the Courts brief and instruct counsel at interlocutory proceedings and substantive hearings communicate directly with internal stakeholders, customers and their legal representatives support the Commissioner and delegates with timely legal advice.
Who we are looking for To be successful in this role, you will have: been admitted as an Australian lawyer between 1-3 years' recent post admission employment experience as an Australian lawyer in the public or private sector, strong academics, with knowledge of – and preferably direct experience in - the litigation, tribunal and court processes excellent verbal and written communication skills, sound decision making and problem-solving skills strong computer skills, including adobe (for preparation of court documents) and adept at working in a hybrid legal environment.
