Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment. The Aboriginal Youth Justice unit is responsible for the design and development of policy, strategy, and program responses for young Aboriginal people in contact with or at risk of contact with the Youth Justice system. About the role: As the Team Manager you will manage and support a team of Aboriginal Liaison Officers who are responsible for engaging and actively working with young Aboriginal people in custody. Key responsibilities include: Effectively lead and manage a team of Aboriginal Liaison Officers (ALOs) Provide team leadership including mentoring, structured learning, professional development, coaching and performance management Advocate for the young Aboriginal people in custody, engaging and involving their family members and community in case work and planning Provide secondary consultation to staff to assist them to appropriately respond to the needs of young Aboriginal people Provide high level advice and support to the Manager, Aboriginal Youth Justice Operations and other senior managers About you: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community Pays attention to words, expression and body language; recognises behaviours that promote a culture of inclusion Champions the importance of partnership through co-creation approaches Qualifications/Requirements A current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required A current full driver's license is required as travel to other offices may be necessary This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
