Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a temporary Health & Safety Advisor with a competitive base salary between $80,000 and $90,000, dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.
This 6-month temporary Safety Advisor role will provide on-the-ground / in the field Health and Safety support for the continued implementation and improvement of the Newmont Health & Safety Management System to drive a Fatality, Injury free workplace.
Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority: Partnering with operational leaders to support the proactive management of key Health & Safety risks onsite.
Provide oversight of departmental Job Hazard Analysis to recognize, assess and manage risk, choosing safer behaviors to drive a fatality-free workplace.
Support implementation of the site H&S management system and procedures.
In consultation with operational staff, write and keep current procedures for safe work that meet Newmont Standards, legislative requirements and generally accepted industry standards.
Support operational leaders to ensure the successful delivery and application of fundamental safety programs such as Pre Shift Meetings / Fatality Risk Management / Lockout - Tag Out / Confined Space / Working at Heights / WHMIS / Fundamentally Stable Parking etc.
Make decisions and judgments on risk in consultation with superintendents, supervisors and workers, based on organizational standards, generally accepted industry standards, legislative requirements, safety knowledge and practice.
Support and coach superintendents, supervisors and workers in the application of the FRM program and the Critical Control Verification system.
Provide coaching and mentoring to departments on incident investigation processes.
Monitor and provide feedback on compliance with safety-critical procedures (e.g., confined space, permit to work).
Communicate, engage with and influence superintendents, supervisors and workers as a 'trusted advisor' to mitigate risk and optimize worker health and safety.

About You: Position requirements include, but are not limited to: Health & Safety experience in a previous safety role or JOHS Committee member preferred.
Minimum of three years of industrial work setting experience.
Experience in delivering meetings and Power Point Presentations.
Experience in the revision / development of safety program documents.
Experience in supporting operational teams to manage and improve H&S risks.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent computer skills.
Knowledgeable / experienced in the following is an asset: Health and Safety Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.
Work Safe BC regulations.
Hazard Identification / Risk Assessment / Mitigation.
Incident investigation.
Workplace Inspections.
WHMIS. Working at Heights program.
Confined Space Entry program.
Lock Out Tag Out Program.
Additional Information Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on/14 days off rotation.
Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs throughout a work shift.
Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
Able to work in close quarters with a team.
