SALARY: $35.38 to $37.54 per hour + benefits (2024 rates) CLASSIFICATION: J12, Recreation Programmer HOURS OF WORK: 28 hours per week in office (ability to increase hours up to 35 hours per week with on deck roles) STATUS: Regular part-time CLOSING DATE: September 30th, 2024 COMPETITION #: 24-93 SUMMARY: Are you an energetic, detail-oriented leader? The Aquatic Programmer leads, coaches, and develops staff and volunteers, plans, and schedules the full scope of aquatic programs and services and assists in budget monitoring.
JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Recruits, selects, and schedules aquatic staff and contract instructors within their authority.
Develops, implements, and delivers training and orientation for aquatic staff and volunteers.
Provides leadership, coaching, and day-to-day work direction to employees and small work teams.
Reviews and provides feedback on the work of staff, assists the Coordinator in delivering performance appraisals.
Ensures policies and procedures are implemented.
Resolves minor issues covered by policies and procedures and works with the Coordinator in resolving major issues.
Recruits and liaises with contract instructors to develop programs and agreement details in accordance with established guidelines.
Develops and implements programs in alignment with department goals and strategies.
Ensures facilities, supplies, and staff required for programs are in place.
Purchases supplies and equipment as required.
Monitors pre-established department budgets and assets.
Develops and monitors program costs and revenue for review and approval.
Provides projections to assist the Coordinator in budget development.
Assists with the distribution, collection and compilation of pool program assessments and evaluations.
Provides statistics and other information for reports.
Develops content for marketing and promotional purposes.
Works with community groups on joint programs.
May participate on community inter-agency committees.
Assists with the planning and implementation of special events and/or projects.
Required to assume some of departmental duties in the coordinator's absence.
Assists in the development and implementation of goals and strategic priorities for the pool.
QUALIFICATIONS Undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Physical Education or a related area from a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum of two years' experience in a related field; or a two-year diploma in a related area with four years of experience.
The successful candidate must maintain current certification in National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and Swim Instructor course (Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or WSPR Swim equivalent).
Demonstrated interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, coaching, and staff development skills.
Ability to develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate programs and services.
Ability to interpret trends, demographics, and community needs with respect to program and service delivery.
Maintains effective working relationships with departmental staff, the public and outside agencies.
Ability to maintain records and compile brief reports.
Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor, track and forecast budgets.
Functions effectively both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task to meet deadlines and program requirements.
Computer skills including word processing, excel and recreation software.
Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner and National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner are asset (required to obtain after employment if do not already have).
Swim Instructor Trainer certification (WSI/WSPR Swim or equivalent) are an asset to this position and preference may be given to candidates holding one or more of these certifications.
Current Waterfit Instructor is an asset to this position.
