The school has two campuses: the Thornton Campus in the Rubicon Valley, 100km north-east of Melbourne, and the Nayook Campus, located approximately 100 km east of Melbourne.
Owing to the nature of the role, this position may be based at either campus.
Students attend classes in local natural environments using adventure activities as part of the instructional content and may engage in overnight expeditions in various environments in Victoria.
The school has formalized partnerships with other schools for longer-term collaboration.
These partnerships span four years and aim to improve the integration of learning at Rubicon into students' base school curriculum.
Selection Criteria SC1 Demonstrated capacity to lead an office team, including directing the work of others.
SC2 Demonstrated knowledge and experience in human resource and financial management records systems.
SC3 Sound knowledge of financial management legal requirements and practices, including capacity to produce reports and provide advice.
SC4 High-level organizational skills, including prioritizing workflows.
SC5 High-level written and verbal communication skills.
Role The Business Manager is required to work throughout a normal school week, Monday to Friday, with attendance required during parts of the term breaks for end-of-month reconciliation and payroll processes.
The role impacts the whole school, seeking cooperation from staff members to achieve specific objectives in school administration, finance, or human resources.
Direction on targets and goals is provided, but the position has some latitude in determining how they are achieved, limited by standard procedures and school policy.
Responsibilities Deliver School Services Manage the design and production of school publications and documents.
Finance Manage and direct the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial statements and contribute to financial decision-making.
Prepare funding submissions for the leadership team and school council.
Direct the accounting processes and ensure effective accounting of all funds according to Treasury regulations.
Provide advice to staff on spending against budget.
Administer government grants and other school income.
Manage fundraising activities.
General Administration Ensure a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
Provide administrative support to external service providers as required.
Manage the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrollments, and transfers.
Provide required administrative support for school events, functions, and projects.
Implement induction programs for new staff and volunteers.
Human Resources Research, plan, and prepare development programs for support staff.
Manage recruitment procedures.
Provide authoritative advice to the leadership team on support structures and work practices.
Assist in developing work practices that ensure occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
Manage procedures relating to employee relations issues.
Assist in human resource planning.
Manage School Resources Coordinate the use and maintenance of school buildings and equipment.
Liaise and negotiate with service providers regarding cost and quality of services.
Supervise the delivery of contracted services.
Manage the development and collection of resource material.
Draft reports and make recommendations on operational issues.
Evaluate and report on operational efficiency of computer systems.
Develop techniques and procedures affecting work practices.
Manage a technical program with a broad scope across the school.
