My DNA operates a state-of-the-art genetics laboratory in Melbourne, Australia, and Gene by Gene in Houston, Texas.
This role will be the head of my DNA lab in Melbourne in the role of Clinical Scientist.
As a Clinical Scientist at my DNA, you will play a vital role in our mission to improve patient outcomes.
You will work with a team of highly skilled scientists to perform and interpret a wide range of medical laboratory tests, including pharmacogenomics, nutrigenomics, paternity testing, and carrier screening tests.
You will also be responsible for developing and implementing new laboratory procedures and tests, overseeing the quality control and assurance of laboratory testing, and providing technical and scientific support to other laboratory staff.
Responsibilities The Clinical Scientist manages all aspects of laboratory operation and testing, manages financial resources, and develops and manages staff performing laboratory technical procedures to ensure a high-quality diagnostic service to the clients of my DNA.
Perform and interpret a wide range of medical laboratory tests, including pharmacogenomic, nutrigenomic, paternity, and other genetic tests.
Develop and implement new laboratory procedures and tests.
Oversee the NATA and quality control and assurance of laboratory testing.
Provide technical and scientific support to other laboratory staff.
Collaborate with clinicians to interpret test results and provide recommendations for patient care.
Qualifications A Fellowship of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (biochemical genetics, cytogenetics, or molecular genetics) (FHGSA).
A Fellowship of the Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FCPath).
A Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph D) in a subject relevant to the scope of diagnostic testing of the laboratory they are supervising.
Experience At least 5-10 years of relevant medical laboratory experience.
Experience in supervising and training other laboratory staff.
Experience in developing and implementing new laboratory procedures and tests.
Experience with NATA, e.g., ISO15189 training and ISO17025 training.
Skills and Knowledge Strong knowledge of medical laboratory testing principles and procedures.
Experience with a wide range of laboratory equipment and software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
