About Neonatal Services As a state-wide leader in neonatal services, each year we care for up to 2,000 premature and unwell babies from across Victoria in our Neonatal intensive care and special care nursery.
The neonatal team provides a family-centred care approach, and our model of care is centred on keeping mothers and babies together.
About The Role As a Developmental Psychologist you will undertake developmental assessments (including cognitive assessment) of infants and preschool children in newborn outpatient follow-up clinics.
You'll work in consultation with nursing, medical, other allied health staff, and parents/carers, to recommend strategies to optimise infant development and child attachment, with the aim to maximise the parent/carer's capacity and confidence in helping their children achieve developmental goals, develop personal strengths, and improve quality of life.
A Regular Day Will See You Perform comprehensive cognitive assessments e.g.
WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) to evaluate cognitive development and potential developmental delays Provide leadership to an integrated, multidisciplinary team to ensure safe developmental assessment of infants and children, including education of staff in the unit and being involved in the development and implementation of developmentally supportive care practices Coordinate referrals for infants and children requiring further assessment and develop treatment plans in consultation with families and staff and in relevant outpatient follow-up clinics Ensure evidenced-based practice, and a philosophy of individualised support underpins all elements of clinical care About You You will be someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is committed to providing excellence in patient care.
You'll Bring With You A relevant undergraduate/qualifying degree in Psychology Registration as a Psychologist with the PBA, with a minimum of five years professional experience as a Psychologist Grade 2 (or equivalent) Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant area, particularly neonatal care and development Demonstrated performance excellence in patient- and family-centred care approach, developmental care models in a neonatal setting, that shows an understanding of the impact of the intensive care experience on parents/carers Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skills for providing psychological support for a caseload of infants and neonates (often premature) and pre-school age children with complex needs Our Benefits At the Women's you will enjoy a culture that is collaborative, supportive and passionate about learning.
