The Role Hydrography is a specialist career that combines science, engineering, the environment, data management and complex technology. The ALS Hydrographics Team in Scoresby are seeking ambitious applicants for the position of Graduate Engineer (Hydrology). The successful candidate will receive industry-specific on-the-job training and support to assist them in meeting the responsibilities of the role, with the option to complete a fully funded Diploma of Water Industry Operations (hydrography). This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed and dedicated team who continually strive to meet and exceed client expectations. The successful candidate will receive extensive formalised and in-house training as part of their career development plan: Enrolment and study time to complete a Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography), typically over 3 years One-on-one mentoring In-house systems, equipment and role-specific technical training The day to day A diverse and challenging role largely dependent on office work accompanied with periodic field work to help gain industry-specific experience and knowledge of field data collection and measurement techniques. Specific responsibilities of the role include: Undertake rating table (level to flow) curve reviews and manage the associated databases. Provide best practice Hydrographic services for clients, in a safe and timely manner. Keep accurate records of training, field observations, photographs, maps, instrumentation, and calibrations. Verify, edit, quality code and troubleshoot anomalies with environmental data. Be open to managing projects individually and within a team. Liaise and correspond with clients. Awareness of how environmental monitoring stations are installed, operated, and maintained, with a strict emphasis on quality. Sound knowledge of, and adherence to ALS core values. The essentials The ideal candidate would have the following attributes: A relevant bachelor's degree in engineering/Drainage or similar; in progress or completed. Clear understanding of surface water hydrology and open channel flow. Understanding of how flows are measured in rivers, creeks and drains. An interest in environmental monitoring and environmental data. Ability to work collaboratively as a team to achieve results. Effective interpersonal skills. Focused, driven and passionate about creating a positive culture driven by innovation. High level of initiative and ability to work under pressure. High level of attention to detail, strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Professional oral and written communication skills. Eligible to enrol in the Diploma of Water Operations (Hydrography).
