About the role We're taking late applications in our process to find a strong and savvy media operator to manage and oversee DGS' day-to-day media activities. The role is an opportunity to work in an issues rich environment, including cyber security, technology, telecommunication, local government, renting and housing, and emergency response. The Manager, Media will lead a small team of media advisers and will be responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships with ministerial advisers, senior executive, department staff and other key stakeholders. The right candidate will play a key role helping the division to develop positioning strategies for emerging issues and working with business areas to identify opportunities to showcase the department's work. This position also plays a leading role to provide media and communication advice to senior leaders and VPS departments and agencies during emergency responses, including cyber incidents. As this is a media-focused role, work outside usual hours of business will be required from time-to-time. An on-call allowance will be available for occasional weekend work. Key accountabilities Lead a small team of media professionals, providing leadership, defining expectations, monitoring and managing performance, and providing timely and constructive feedback to support staff development. Manage and oversee DGS daily media activities, including liaising with the media and ministerial advisers, undertaking horizon scanning and developing mitigation approaches to manage risk. Build and maintain strong professional relationships with ministerial offices, senior executives, departmental staff and other key stakeholders. Play a key role helping to develop positioning strategies for emerging issues and identifying opportunities to showcase the department's work. Prepare and oversee the preparation of media releases, briefing notes, media event packs, and input to speeches, as required. Oversee the provision of regular updates and reports to senior leadership on media issues and activities, including analysis of the media landscape.
