Organisational Profile GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based on Gunaikurnai Country in Bairnsdale, Victoria.
Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not for Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC is a child safe agency and has a zero tolerance of abuse or neglect of children and young people.
Position Purpose The Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative (GEGAC) is seeking a motivated and culturally competent Coordinator for our newly established Men's Wellbeing Unit.
The Coordinator will lead efforts to enhance the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal men in the region by developing, implementing, and overseeing culturally tailored programs and interventions that address critical health and wellbeing issues.
Reporting to the Executive Director Culture/Deputy CEO this position will liaise with a range of key stakeholders, including GEGAC staff, other providers, funders and most importantly community.
Key Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, support and provide leadership to a staff team.
An ability to direct the team towards goal orientated intervention plans.
Demonstrated ability to develop programs and activities, including the prediction of various risks.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with members of the Aboriginal community and negotiate effectively at senior levels across relevant government and non-government organisations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective facilitation, negotiation, influencing skills, report writing, presentation skills and stakeholder management.
Proven ability to rethink ways of working to creatively solve problems, actively challenge existing ways of doing things and promoting open and constructive feedback.
Effective people management and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and always remain neutral.
Sound program management skills and experience, including the monitoring and evaluation of standards and the ability to collect relevant data and meet program reporting requirements.
A strong desire to advocate on behalf of Aboriginal people to ensure that systemic issues which negatively impact on individuals and the community are addressed.
Awareness and recognition of Aboriginal culture.
A team orientated person who has a passion for working within an Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander environment.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable) Valid Driver's License ESSENTIAL Diploma or working towards in Aboriginal Health or equivalent ESSENTIAL A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL Significant knowledge of Aboriginal culture, lore, community, land and water ESSENTIAL A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2 Work Police Check ESSENTIAL Relevant experience in the health and well-being industry of at least five years DESIRABLE Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with mandatory vaccination directive applying to authorised workers ESSENTIAL How to apply for this job A copy of the position description can be obtained at GEGAC reception 03 5150 0700 or by emailing Click here to view the Position Description Applicants must address the key selection criteria for shortlisting.
