Job Description Location: Melbourne | Eastern Metropolitan Job type: Part time / From 28/01/2025 - 26/01/2026 Organisation: Schools (Government) Salary: Salary not specified Occupation: Nursing Reference: 1434606 Selection Criteria Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with physical disability and complex health needs.
Experience in the management of health emergencies applicable to a school setting or experience from other settings that is transferrable.
Knowledge and experience in supporting people with enteral feeds, compromised respiratory function, neurological conditions including epilepsy and common childhood illnesses.
Demonstrated aptitude in working collaboratively with the parents, carers and families of people with physical disabilities and other significant impairments (ie: cognitive, communicative, sensory).
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a transdisciplinary team as well as experience practicing independently.
Role The role will include but not be limited to: Management of the wellbeing of students and supporting their engagement in learning.
Preparation, maintenance and regular update of individual case notes/files for each student.
Liaison with families, doctors, school staff and Therapists as required.
Management and administration of medications, including documentation.
Management and administration of enteral feeds including stoma care.
Management of student respiratory issues including suctioning and oxygen therapy.
Assessing and managing students presenting with illnesses or injuries.
Providing relevant assistance to teachers in the management of students with health issues and challenges.
Liaison with the Principal and leadership team to support student wellbeing and engagement at school.
Liaising closely with wellbeing coordinator, DHHS, families and other stakeholders where student wellbeing is considered to be a risk.
Attendance at meetings as required by the school.
Plan and deliver professional development and training for staff, parents, and others as required by the school.
Adherence to the school's policies and procedures.
Maintain up to date student files, accident/incident records and case notes.
Assess and manage students presenting with seizures.
Ensuring, where applicable, annual medical plans and their associated medications e.g.
asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes are up to date.
Responsibilities Implement nursing interventions including referral as appropriate via child's parent or guardian to health professionals/agencies.
Provide follow-up service, which ensures children with health related problems receive appropriate assistance.
Carry out health promotion/education activities and act as clinical resource to the school community.
Act as an advocate for children and promote child health as a member of a transdisciplinary team, liaising effectively with parents, teachers, health, welfare and education staff.
Maintain accurate electronic records for assessments, referral, planning and implementation.
Observe safe working practices and protect own and others' health and safety.
Who May Apply Be a Division 1 Nurse.
Are registered with APHRA.
Be available to work 3 days a week from 8.45 am until 3:30 pm.
Have experience in an emergency, disability or paediatric setting.
