The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 2 x Principal Policy Officers to provide support to the Tobacco Regulation Project.
About the Business Unit The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) provides a range of government programs and services focused on improving community safety, victim services, regulatory services, and crime prevention.
Located in the Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services (IRLS) group, the Tobacco Regulation Project (TRP) has been established to deliver the Victorian Government's commitment to implement a tobacco regulation and licensing scheme.
About the Role Reporting to the Director, Legislation, Policy and Engagement, the Principal Policy Officer will bring high-level policy expertise and leadership to drive the successful delivery of key projects and activities to support the establishment of the tobacco regulator and licensing scheme, including: Developing relevant legislation, regulations and policies Providing high-quality and authoritative strategic policy advice Delivering key projects and outcomes, including the preparation of government submissions Identifying emerging complex or highly sensitive issues, risks and trends About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Extensive experience in leading the development of strategic legislative and regulatory policy in a public sector setting Ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues, interpret legislation and provide legal policy solutions Excellent analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to identify emerging trends and systemic issues Sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian government administrative processes, including Cabinet and legislative processes Qualifications/Requirements A tertiary qualification in law, public administration, regulatory studies, public policy or other relevant discipline, including experience in a senior policy officer role is desirable.
