About the role: The Senior Compliance Officer provides expert regulatory advice related to various health regulatory domains (which may include medicines and poisons and other regulated substances, practitioner investigations and pesticide safety).
Working across the different sectors, the Senior Compliance Officer will use their knowledge and experience to support and administer the team's regulatory functions and monitor and enforce compliance in accordance with the relevant legislation.
Reporting to the Team Leader, you will work in a small and busy team that provides advice to senior executives in the Department and the Minister for Health on various regulatory issues and administers legislation and regulations in various health regulatory domains.
As a key member of the Health Regulator Branch, you will be required to work with other team members as well as other teams across the branch on a range of regulatory and investigative matters to enable the Department to meet its regulatory obligations and to provide oversight for the safety and quality of various sectors.
The role may include periods of out-of-business hours work (e.g.
weeknights and weekends) and travel to regional and remote areas.
How you'll make a difference: Conduct desktop and onsite assessments of regulated entities, preparing reports, advice and correspondence as required and taking essential regulatory action when non-compliance is identified.
Ensure operational and practice initiatives meet the strategic directions for managing and delivering high-quality services.
Formulate compliance and evaluation strategies to address specific issues related to the effective provision and implementation of required outcomes.
Undertake high-level research and investigations into service delivery issues, risks and trends impacting on achieving key business objectives, policy initiatives and operational imperatives.
Monitor and analyse the implementation and delivery of practical and policy initiatives.
Assist in the development of a risk-based regulatory approach to legislation that is managed and administered by the Branch.
Minimum Requirements: Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g.
regulation, law, or AHPRA registered health professional - nurse/paramedic/pharmacy/allied health; or other relevant science qualifications) would be highly regarded.
Experience in regulatory and public policy work as well as knowledge of relevant government legislation.
Experience in the private health service sector, hospital environment or in a clinical/science environment would be advantageous.
